Overview of Graduation

Graduation is a special time at NorKam. There are a number of events, activities, and expectations around Graduation, including

Commencements - are organized by the school. Commencements for the class of 2018 will be held on June 12, 2018 at MacArthur Island Sports Centre. Held during the evening, usually commencing at 7:00, the ceremony features speeches by notable people in the school district and community. The ceremony then progresses into the handing out of graduation certificates. Opportunities for photographs are limited during the ceremony, a photographer will be there to take pictures of each student under the arch once they have crossed the stage. Students can also wear their gowns after the ceremony for photograph taking. Tickets for the event are limited due to the seating capacity. Each student will be entitled to an allotment of tickets based upon the number of grads and the number of seats available. Tickets not picked up by grads will be allotted to those grads who have requested additional tickets beyond their allotment.

Measurements for gowns and caps to be worn at commencements are usually taken late in semester one or early in semester two.

Student Grad Committee - interested students are gathered together to assist with grad planning by Mr. Wales. They help advise on theme, and song as well as other elements of grad.

A Valedictorian is elected by the members of the grad class to represent the graduating class by giving a speech during commencements. In order to be elected, all candidates must be nominated by at least 10 classmates and give a speech to the grads highlighting what their commencement message would be.

School Grad Fee - this fee is payable to the school to cover the cost of commencements, including gowns, program printing, decorations, and other costs of commencements. Events organized by parents are not covered by this fee. The parent committee will determine what additional costs students will have to pay for these events.

Grad Photographs are scheduled for the last week in January. A signup sheet will be posted in the office for appointment times. The photographer will have gowns available. The photographer will take a photo of each grad for the yearbook.  Grad re-takes will be available February 19 and 20.
