It's application time! Students in SD73 have access to so many incredible programs and now is the time to do some planning and prepare applications.  It is important that planning begin in grade 10 when the student is selecting courses for grades 11 and 12.

Digital Arts & Technology Academy (DATA): Students in grades 11 or 12 attend Semester 1 at Valleyview Secondary immersed in animation, game design, and computer science. Apply in grade 10 or 11.

Trades Samplers: Students in grades 10 - 12 spend a full semester in the NorKam Trades Centre working with TRU instructors and trying out four different trades.  Apply in grades 9 - 12. Three different samplers are offered:

  • Construction Sampler
  • Industrial Sampler (Semester 2 only)
  • Mechanical Sampler

Youth Train In Trades - Hairstylist: Spend two semesters in NorKam's fully accredited hair salon, La Bella Saints, and graduate high school registered with SkilledTradesBC as a level one apprentice. Apply in grade 10 or 11. This program commences in Semester 2. Students then complete a 300 hour work placement in a salon over the summer and return to NorKam for Semester 1.

Youth Train in Trades: Spend one or two semesters of grade 12 at TRU completing your first year of trade training, while receiving dual credit, and SD73 will pay the tuition. There are a variety of trades to choose from. Students graduate registered with SkilledTradesBC as level one apprentices. Apply in grade 10 or 11.

TRU Start Programs: Students earn dual credit with TRU and SD73 while attending TRU for their entire grade 12 year:

SD73 pays the tuition for TRU Start Program for Fall and Winter semesters of their grade 12 year. Apply in grade 10 or 11.
